Privacy policy
Effective October 20, 2026
Short version: we collect only what the app needs to help you keep your benefits. We never ask for your Social Security number. We don't sell your information, we don't share it for advertising, and there are no ads.
Who we are
Work Worry-Free is an app and website run by Blue Ridge Labs LLC, a Tennessee limited liability company ("we", "us"). We are independent and not connected to the Social Security Administration. Questions or requests: hello@workworryfree.com.
What we collect, and why
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| A nickname (not your legal name), and how to say it | To greet you and read things aloud correctly |
| Your benefit type (SSDI, SSI or both), trial months used, and similar answers | To apply the right rules |
| Pay amounts and dates, and gig income and costs you enter | To check each month against the rules |
| Reports you save (date, method, confirmation number), letters, savings amounts, and photos you choose to keep | To keep your proof |
| Record history: what was added, changed or deleted, when, and from which phone | So your records can be trusted in a dispute, and you can see every change |
| When you agreed to the terms and the "I understand" statement | To show what you agreed to, and when |
| Your email address, if you turn on cloud backup, sharing or scanning, and an optional password (stored only as a protected hash) | To sign you in and send sign-in codes |
| A few settings, if backup is on: your nickname, reminder day and time, and who you're helping | So a new phone feels familiar |
| A random ID for each device | To keep backups in sync between phones, and to show which phone made each change |
| Your plan and subscription status (from Apple or Google) | To unlock what you paid for |
| Basic server logs (time, network address, errors), kept for up to 30 days | To keep the service secure and working |
We never ask for your Social Security number, bank passwords or card numbers. Payments are handled by Apple or Google; we never see your card.
Benefit and pay information can reveal that you have a disability. We treat all of it as sensitive, and we only use it to provide the service to you. See also our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
Your accessibility answers stay on your phone
When you tell the app what would make it easier to use (like larger text or calm wording), those answers are stored only on your device. They are never sent to us, even with cloud backup on.
Where your information is kept
- On your phone, by default. You don't need an account. Without cloud backup, your records stay on your device.
- In cloud backup, if you turn it on. Your records are sent over an encrypted connection and stored by Railway, our hosting provider, on servers in the United States: your records in a private database, and any photos you back up in private storage that only our server can open. Each account can only reach its own records, and records someone chose to share with it.
- Reminders are scheduled on your phone. They never show your pay or benefits on the lock screen. Calendar entries you add never include pay amounts.
Pay stub scanning and photos
- Reading the stub. If you scan a pay stub, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which asks an AI service (Anthropic) to read the pay amounts and dates. Our server doesn't store the photo. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic doesn't use this data to train its models and may keep it only for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring. You always check the numbers before anything is saved. You can also type your pay in instead.
- Keeping the photo is your choice. If you keep it, it's saved with that paycheck on your phone, so you have proof if the paper stub is lost. If you don't, it's deleted after it's read.
- Social Security numbers. The AI also checks whether the stub shows a full Social Security number or bank account number. It never writes those numbers down. If it sees one, that photo stays on your phone and is never uploaded to cloud backup, and it's left out of your proof packet unless you choose to include it. Other kept photos are included in your cloud backup if you turn it on, where only you and people you share with can see them. The check is automatic and could miss a number, so if a stub shows your full Social Security number, you can choose not to keep the photo.
Who we share with
- People you choose. If you share access with a helper, they can see and edit that person's records and photos, and you each see the other's email address. You can stop sharing anytime.
- Service providers that help us run the service, only to provide it to us:
- Railway: hosting our server and this website, and storing the database, its backups and backed-up photos, in the United States
- Porkbun: our web address, and passing on email you send to hello@workworryfree.com to our inbox
- Resend: sending sign-in code emails (your email address and the code)
- Anthropic: reading pay stub photos when you scan
- RevenueCat: keeping track of App Store and Google Play subscriptions (a random account ID and purchase records)
- Apple and Google: app downloads, payments and subscriptions
- When the law requires it, like a valid court order, and only what's required. We'll tell you unless the law doesn't allow it.
- If the business changes hands, information may move to the new owner, who must keep these promises or give you notice and a chance to delete your data first.
We do not sell your information, share it for targeted advertising, or show ads. The app has no third-party tracking or advertising tools. This website has no trackers and doesn't set cookies; your display settings are remembered only in your own browser. Because we don't track you across sites, we don't change anything based on Do Not Track signals.
AI training: we don't use your information to train AI models, and our AI provider doesn't either. The pay stub reader returns only pay amounts, dates and hours (and whether a Social Security or account number shows). It may also read the employer's name, which the app doesn't save.
Record history
The app keeps a history of every add, change and delete, with the old and new values. It doesn't include photos. With cloud backup on, each entry is also copied to an add-only server log (the app and its users can't change or remove entries after the server receives them, except when the person is removed or the account is deleted), so it can serve as evidence of what was entered and when. You can see the history in your proof packet.
We don't look at your records or record history, except: when you ask us for help and give permission, when the law requires it, to keep the service secure, or to respond to a legal claim about the service's records, including one you or someone acting for you makes.
How long we keep it
We keep cloud backups, photos and the record history while your account is open. When you delete your account in the app (Me → Sign-in & security → Delete my account), we delete your cloud records, photos and record history, including history a helper added about your people, right away. Removing one person from backup deletes that person's server history too. Copies in our database backups are deleted automatically within 35 days: we keep daily backups for 6 days, weekly backups for 27 days, and a recovery log for about four weeks, so we can restore the service after a failure. We don't keep backup copies of photos. We also ask RevenueCat to delete its record of your account; Apple and Google keep their own purchase records under their privacy policies. Record history a helper wrote about someone else's person stays with that person's records after the helper deletes their own account. If you don't use cloud backup, we have nothing to delete: "Erase everything" on your phone removes what's there. If we're required to keep something for a legal reason, we keep only that, only as long as needed.
Your choices and rights
We give everyone these rights, whether or not your state's law requires it:
- See and export your information anytime with a backup file (Me → Backups).
- Correct anything in the app. The record history keeps a note of the change, with the old value, so your records stay trustworthy.
- Delete your account and data in the app, or by emailing us.
- Withdraw consent to cloud backup at any time by turning it off and deleting your cloud copy.
- Ask us what we have about you, and get a copy, by emailing hello@workworryfree.com. We'll answer within 30 days (45 days where state law allows), and we won't treat you differently for asking. If we say no, you can appeal by replying to our answer; we'll respond within 45 days, and if you're still not satisfied you can contact your state attorney general.
Some states' privacy laws (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington) give residents rights like these. We don't sell or "share" personal information as those laws define it, we ask for your consent before using information that can reveal a disability, and we don't use sensitive information for anything beyond providing the service.
Security
We use encrypted connections, per-account access rules checked on our server, sign-in codes that expire after 10 minutes, optional Face ID or passcode lock, and we collect as little as we can. Passwords are stored only as salted, peppered hashes (Argon2id), and our database can't be reached from the internet. No system is perfect, so please keep your phone locked and never share your sign-in codes.
If there's ever a breach that affects your information, we'll tell you without unreasonable delay, and within the time the law requires (for example, within 60 days under the FTC's Health Breach Notification Rule), and notify regulators where required.
Children
The app is for adults. Parents, guardians and representative payees can use it to keep records about a child they're responsible for. We don't knowingly collect information directly from children under 13; if you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect. We won't use information already collected in a new way without your consent.
